About Storage Made Clear

Storage Made Clear is an independent guide to UK self-storage. It exists because the price on a storage website is rarely the amount you pay, and because unit sizes are sold in square feet that are hard to picture from a sofa.

The site does two practical jobs. The size calculator suggests a starting unit, from 25 to 200 square feet, using a room preset or a list of items. The allowances are labelled as illustrative. The true cost calculator takes two quotes you already have and costs them over the same stay, including weekly or four-weekly billing, an introductory offer, protection and one-off fees. Both tools run in the browser. They do not send the numbers anywhere.

What we are not

We are not a storage company. We do not own units, reserve them, or take a deposit. We do not operate a call centre and we do not sell your details to one. There is no enquiry form in this version of the site. If you want a unit, you contract with a provider. Our job is to help you read the quote before you do that.

We are also not a price index. UK storage rates move with the building, the week and the size, and this site will not invent an average for a city so that a page looks more definite. When a figure appears, it is a worked example and it says so. £85 every four weeks is the example we use for the 13/12 conversion. It is not a claim about the market.

How the site can be paid for

The intention is that clearly marked affiliate links may one day earn a commission if you take a unit through them. That must not change the price you pay, and it must not change the arithmetic. In this version the links are switched off while partner approval, including Awin and Safestore, is outstanding. The detail is on the advertising disclosure and on how we work.

Who writes it

The copy is written as a guide, in British English, for people comparing quotes in the UK. It is reviewed as a draft for the site owner to stand behind. It is not legal, insurance or tax advice. Where the law is mentioned, such as VAT on self-storage, it is so you know which question to ask, not so you can file a return from a blog post.

If something is wrong, or a store’s contract does not match the way the calculator treats deposits, believe the contract and tell us. The contact address is on the contact page. Please do not send documents, payment card numbers or the contents of a quote you would rather keep private. The calculators were built so that those details never need to reach us.
